Plum Borough School Board introduced the high school’s new student representative to the board for 2022-23.

Lauren Price officially starts the role in August. She replaces Hailey Drapcho, who has served as representative during the current school year.

“Lauren is the perfect pick,” Drapcho said. “I think she’ll do very well here.”

The role has no voting power, but it allows a student to share what is happening in school and allows the students to be aware of any changes to the school, itself.

“It feels really amazing to be on the school board,” Price said after her selection was announced at the board’s May 24 meeting. “I feel honored to be selected by my principals. I had to go through an interview process, and I feel very honored that they selected me.”

While Price will be entering her senior year in the fall, she is looking ahead to college, with her top choice being to study engineering at Penn State.

“They’ve been my No. 1 school for a long time,” she said.

Outside of school, she volunteers with the Monroeville Lions Club, helping to recruit fellow students to assist with the club’s weekly farmer’s market. She also is a swimmer on the school’s varsity team, president of the Girls Leadership Association, treasurer of Women in STEM and a peer tutor, plus she plays the piano, which she has done since first grade.

As for Drapcho, she is off to Bucknell University in Lewisburg to work toward a double major in literature and ancient Mediterranean studies, with a minor in creative writing.

“I’ve been very grateful to have this opportunity to, like I said in my report, paint the lives of Plum students in the best way possible and give a voice to those that aren’t heard,” said Drapcho. “I know when I was a freshman, I was very shy, so I’m glad to have grown to be the voice of those possibly shy kids, as well.”
