Despite some precipitation, players still turned out Aug. 21 at the Renton baseball field for a charity kickball tournament hosted by Lelulo’s Pizzeria of Plum.

The event raised money for Angels In Da Skys, a local charity that the owner of Lelulo’s, Patyn McCune, supports.

“They’re like the Red Cross of Plum,” said McCune. “Any tragedy that happens, they are like the first responders to help literally anybody.”

Melissa DiPasquale, is founder and president of Angels In Da Skys, formed as a volunteer group in 2005 and attaining official nonprofit status in 2020.

“Our main program is our Christmas outreach. We’re we help local families with Christmas gifts, Christmas Dinner, as well as well as domestic violence survivors,” she said, plus families that have experienced fires. “We try to help out in the community in any way that we can.”

A total of $1,480 was raised during the tournament, which McCune hopes to make an annual event. In addition to the teams playing kickball, two food trucks, Sweet for the Streets and Let’s Taco, were on the scene, as well as a Boss Entertainment providing music, a cornhole board and free drinks provided for spectators.

“We would like to sincerely thank Patyn for all of her hard work in organizing all of this herself,” said DiPasquale, “and we would like to thank the community for coming out, especially with the weather today. Everybody still showed up, even with the rain, and we would like to thank everybody for that.”

Angels In Da Skys’ next fundraiser is a vendor and craft fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department, Route 286.
