PAWS to Read at Plum library includes therapy dogs
Plum Borough Community Library will host PAWS to Read, a storytime for students in first through fourth grades with therapy dogs from Westmoreland County Obedience Training Club, at 10 a.m. July 26 at 445 Center-New Texas Road.
Participants can read to the dogs and learn about them.
Volunteers sought for Oakmont’s fire department
Oakmont Volunteer Fire Department is seeking volunteers.
Prospective members do not need to be residents to join.

Library hosts coding club
The Plum library has a coding club for beginners.
Students in fourth through sixth grades can learn about coding from educator Erin Prosser. Participants can learn coding basics, coding vocabulary and an introduction to computer languages.
The club meets from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 25 and July 27 at the library.
Both programs are free. Registration is available at plumlibrary.org.
Oakmont seeks to fill vacancy
Oakmont officials are seeking candidates to fill a vacancy on the planning commission.
The commission meets the fourth Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the borough office.
Those interested can fill out a community service form and submit it, along with any relevant qualifications, to the borough at 767 Fifth St.
Waste collection event scheduled
Noble Environmental is having a drive-through e-waste and household hazardous waste collection event July 30 at 731 Second St. in Oakmont.
Appointments are being scheduled between 9:25 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. at nobleenviro.com/e-waste-and-hhw.
Televisions, computers, printers, scanners, copiers, air-conditioning units, dehumidifiers, small household appliances, other electronics, paints, thinners, oils, cleaning products, pesticides, garden products, propane cylinders and bulbs are among the items being recycled. Fees will apply.
Prohibited items include smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, ammunition, explosives, tires, compressed-gas cylinders, large appliances, medical waste, elemental mercury, mercury-containing devices and PCB-contaminated items.
Participants must remain in their vehicles at all times. Credit cards will be the only form of payment accepted.
Spaghetti dinner to aid Verona firefighters
Verona Volunteer Fire Company will host its inaugural spaghetti dinner fundraiser and open house from 4 to 7 p.m. July 30 at the station, 465 Parker St.
Plates are $12 and include pasta, salad, bread, dessert and a drink.
People can tour the station and check out some of the equipment.
Firefighters are also collecting toys for Toys for Tots as part of the department’s Christmas in July program.
Toys can be dropped off during the open house or at the station between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. July 23 and July 30.

Reunion set for Plum’s Class of 1966
A reunion of the Plum Senior High School Class of 1966 is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 27 at Pugliano’s Italian Grill, 1808 Golden Mile Highway, Plum.
Cost is $35. Cash will be collected at the door, and the exact amount is requested.
A buffet dinner features appetizers, deli platter, salads, vegetables, and beef, chicken and pasta. Dessert and nonalcoholic beverages are included.
Casual attire is recommended. Name tags will be provided at check-in. Music from the 1960s is featured.
