Pittsburgh City Council on Tuesday approved an additional $3.2 million for their portion of renovations at 412 Boulevard of the Allies.

Pittsburgh’s portion of the renovations needed to create office space in the 412 Boulevard of the Allies Building will get an added $3 million over its initial budget.

City Council on Tuesday approved a measure to allocate an additional $3.2 million for the project, which will relocate several city offices into the Downtown space.

The building is expected to house OneStopPGH, where people would be able to get various licenses and permits, upload development plans and track violation notices in one spot.

Many of the offices that are set to move to the new space were previously housed in the John P. Robin Civic Center at 200 Ross St., a building that is more than a century old.

The city co-owns 412 Boulevard of the Allies with the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh and the Urban Redevelopment Authority, which also will have their own office spaces in the building. The URA has already moved into its part of the building, but city officials have not offered an exact timeline of when their offices would open there.

Maria Montaño, a spokesperson for Mayor Ed Gainey, said officials are hopeful they will have their space completed next year.

The city’s portion of the project is now slated to cost about $8.8 million. The additional money council approved Tuesday will come from the 2023 budget.

Montaño said the added expenses are related to supply chain issues and increased construction costs.

Council approved the additional funding without discussion Tuesday. Council President Theresa Kail-Smith and Councilwoman Deb Gross voted against the extra money for the renovations.

The 412 Boulevard of the Allies building, which was completed in 1927, was nominated for historic designation. Council is set to host a public hearing discussing the nomination next Thursday.
