Pittsburgh's Junction Hollow formally designated as part of Schenley Park

Junction Hollow is now formally designated as part of Pittsburgh’s Schenley Park.

The 28-acre area has long been viewed as part of the park, said City Councilwoman Barb Warwick, D-Greenfield.

Warwick, who sponsored legislation to designate the land as part of Schenley Park, said she wanted to ensure that Junction Hollow had the same protection as other city parkland. Council unanimously approved the proposal Wednesday.

The plot of city-owned land sits near a bike bath that enters the park near Panther Hollow. The field space there is often used as a soccer field or for other sports, Warwick said.

The area is well-maintained and already bears a sign identifying it as part of Schenley Park, she added.

Warwick has said her office also is working to draft legislation that would prohibit development in any city park unless the development is “directly related to public enjoyment.”
