Pittsburgh woman charged in luring incident accused in 4 similar robberies
A Beechview woman charged Wednesday in connection with an attempted robbery and shooting is accused of staging at least four other robberies in two municipalities in the past month, court records show.
Pittsburgh police charged Nyzjayah Majors, 20, with aggravated assault and conspiracy to commit robbery, both felonies. She also is facing charges of criminal use of a communication facility, and false identification to law enforcement, police said.
A man told Pittsburgh police Majors lured him to a Beechview home early Wednesday — her fifth alleged robbery or attempted robbery in a month’s time — where individuals there struck him with a firearm, attempted to rob him, and shot him in the leg. The man, who police did not name, was taken to UPMC Mercy hospital in stable condition.
Authorities said the man, whose name has not been released, told police that after being coaxed to the home, those there struck him with a firearm, attempted to rob him and fired several shots.
The man told police he had run to Belasco Avenue to find help after being shot, officers said.
James Phillips, 16, of Highland Park, Wednesday also was arrested and charged as an adult with aggravated assault in connection with the Beechview incident.
“(Majors and Phillips) were both arrested and charged after they were taken into custody after the incident,” said Amanda Mueller, a spokesperson for Pittsburgh Public Safety.
Majors already has a preliminary hearing April 27 in connection with the first incident, on March 1 in Wilkinsburg. In that incident, Majors asked a man for a ride to her house. After arriving the location, unidentified men robbed the man and stole his car, police said.
Majors “remained calm and had no reaction to the crime” as she drove off with the unidentified men, according to a criminal complaint.
She was arraigned by District Judge Tara Smith and posted $5,000 bail on March 14.
On March 28 at 3:21 p.m., in the second incident, Majors asked a man through the dating app BLK to meet her at a Wilkinsburg home to smoke marijuana, according to a criminal complaint.
After exiting the car, the manwas approached by four males, who stole his $900 iPhone, $500 smartwatch, wallet and shoes, then stole his car, a 2017 BMW, police said. Each of the robbers was wearing a facemask, the alleged victim said.
On the same day, at 3:50 p.m., Majors invited another man who knew her as “Oh Huh” from Facebook to a West Mifflin home, according to a criminal complaint.
They walked down the sidewalk through a tunnel and, as they exited, the man was approached by three males armed with handguns; the men pushed him to the ground, went through his pockets, took his shoes, and took a backpack containing his wallet, cell phone, car keys, and Samsung air buds, police said.
The next day in West Mifflin, Majors allegedly committed the fourth incident — another robbery — for which she was charged with robbery, two counts of criminal conspiracy, and four counts of theft by unlawful taking, court records show.
An employee of District Judge Richard Olasz Jr.’s court said Wednesday they could not release more information on that case until Majors is arraigned on the charges. Olasz issued warrants for Majors’ arrest on March 29 and April 3, a criminal complaint said.
Police in Wilkinsburg and West Mifflin did not return calls seeking comment.
