For local youth looking to explore their creative side over summer vacation, Pittsburgh’s Roving Art Cart will be bringing arts and crafts to various city parks.

The Roving Art Cart allows children to participate in multi-media art projects at no cost.

The program includes painting, beads and sculpting in an outdoor setting, and features special guest artists and entertainers.

The Roving Art Cart will be available at various parks on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. throughout the summer:

June 21: Frick Park at Blue Slide Playground June 24: Schenley Park at Schenley Oval June 28: Allegheny Commons Park (West Commons) near the National Aviary July 1: Highland Park Farmhouse July 5: Troy Hill Spray Park July 8: Riverview Park Observatory July 12: Beechview Spray Park July 15: Frick Park on Forbes at Braddock Playground July 19: Burgwin Spray Park in Hazelwood July 22: Grandview Park Overlook on Mt. Washington July 26: Moore Park in Brookline July 29: Schenley Park at Anderson Playground August 2: Riverview Park at observatory entrance August 5: Frick Park at Blue Slide Playground

Activities change based on factors including weather. The Roving Art Cart will cancel if there is a threat of storms.

Activities are best suited for children ages 5 to 12, city officials said. Children younger than 5 must have a caregiver present while they participate, officials said, though all children should be supervised.

Groups of 10 or more are required to make a reservation to participate. A reservation form is available online.
