Due to forecasted high temperatures, CitiParks will open six cooling centers this coming week.

A heat wave is headed to Western Pennsylvania — with temperatures at 90 degrees or higher predicted.

Cooling centers will be open in the following locations from Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21:

Beechview Healthy Active Living Community Center on Broadway Avenue Brighton Heights Healthy Active Living Community Center on McClure Avenue Greenfield Healthy Active Living Community Center on Greenfield Avenue Homewood Healthy Active Living Community Center on Frankstown Road Sheraden Healthy Active Living Community Center on Sherwood Avenue South Side Healthy Active Living Community Center on 12th and Bingham streets

All other healthy active living senior centers will be open as regularly scheduled, CitiParks said, which is 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. aside from Juneteenth.

Also, CitiParks recreation centers will be open with air conditioning during the following hours Monday through Friday this coming week:

Ammon (2217 Bedford Avenue, 15219) 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Brookline (1400 Oakridge Street, 15226) 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jefferson (605 Redknap Street, 15212) 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Magee (745 Greenfield Avenue, 15217) 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Paulson (1201 Paulson Avenue, 15206 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Phillips (201 Parkfield Street, 15210) 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

They are all closed on Wednesday for the Juneteenth holiday.

The cooling center hours will be 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily — except for Wednesday, June 19 for the Juneteenth holiday. Hours will be noon to 7 p.m. that day.

CitiParks said cooling centers are typically activated when the weather is forecasted above 90 degrees.
