Pittsburgh to begin hosting 2024 budget meetings to gather ideas from residents
Pittsburgh officials this week are starting a series of community meetings to gather public input on the city’s 2024 budgets.
Residents will be have opportunities to participate in virtual and in-person meetings geared toward the North, South, East and West portions of the city.
Roundtable discussions will include representatives from city departments who will provide information about the city’s budgets and gather ideas from residents. The city is soliciting feedback on the operating and capital budgets.
A virtual meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday via Zoom. People who want to participate can register for the online meeting on the city’s EngagePGH budget page.
The city also is planning meetings at 6 p.m. May 17 at the Phillips Recreation Center in Carrick, 6 p.m. May 18 at the Manchester Citizens Corporation Center, 6 p.m. June 1 at the Sheraden Senior Center and 6 p.m. June 7 at the Homewood Senior Center.
Anyone who needs special accommodations should reach out to the city’s ADA coordinator at least two days before the event by emailing ada@pittsburghpa.gov.
The city also launched a virtual budget survey, which is available online.
The city also has an online map where people can suggest spots for capital projects, plus virtual budget simulations.
The mayor will present a preliminary budget at the end of September before submitting his budget proposal to City Council in November. Council will then hold a series of public hearings on the operating and capital budgets before passing a balanced budget by the end of the year.
