Pittsburgh will open six cooling centers Monday and Tuesday as temperatures are expected to climb above 90 degrees.

The cooling centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., city officials said.

The cooling centers will be available at Healthy Active Living Community Center sites throughout the city:

• Beechview at 1555 Broadway Ave.

• Greenfield at 745 Greenfield Ave.

• Homewood at 7321 Frankstown Road

• Sheraden at 720 Sherwood Ave.

• South Side at the intersection of 12th and Bingham streets

The city typically opens its cooling centers when temperatures are expected to exceed 90 degrees, which the National Weather Service predicted will happen.

The service issued a moderate heat risk for Monday. The advisory means that temperatures could impact most individuals who are sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling or adequate hydration. People should try to stay in a cool place as temperatures climb during the day.

On Tuesday, the service is forecasting a major heat risk. That means that the heat will affect anyone without effective cooling or adequate hydration. It advised people to consider canceling outdoor activities and urged people to stay hydrated and in a cool place.
