Pittsburgh police have made an arrest in connection with a homicide early this month in the city’s Hill District.

Anthony Young, 35, of Pittsburgh was killed May 3.

Young was shot in the head in the 2500 block of Bedford Avenue, near the intersection of Bedford Avenue and Watt Lane. That’s in the Bedford Dwellings section of the Hill District.

Pittsburgh Public Safety spokeswoman Cara Cruz Wednesday evening announced the apprehension of Jewel Woods, 27, of Pittsburgh.

He was arrested on a warrant at the Munhall magistrate’s office where he appeared for proceedings on an unrelated matter.

Woods is charged with criminal homicide and illegally possessing a gun. He was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

Online court documents indicate the case before District Judge Patrick D. Campbell on Wednesday afternoon was the result of an April 9 incident in Homestead.

Homestead police charged Woods with illegally possessing a gun, receiving stolen property, carrying a gun without a license, carrying a loaded weapon and drug charges.

His preliminary hearing was continued to June 6.

His preliminary hearing for the Pittsburgh case was not posted as of late Wednesday.
