Pittsburgh cocaine dealer sentenced to 15 years in prison
A former Pittsburgh man who distributed at least five kilograms of cocaine to drug dealers who sold it lower-level dealers and users over almost three years was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in a federal prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Pittsburgh said.
Cadee Akins Sr., 50, formerly of the city’s Stanton Heights neighborhood, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Cathy Bissoon on a charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release. Akins had pleaded guilty in March to the drug charges.
Akins and his son, Cadee Akins Jr., were indicted by a federal grand jury in September 202 on the same drug charges. Akins Sr. was arrested in October 2020, while Akins Jr. was not arrested until June 2021, according to court documents.
Federal authorities found that Akins Sr. was involved in dealing the cocaine and at least 280 grams (10 ounces) of cocaine base, from November 2017 to September 2020.
During a July 2019 traffic stop, law enforcement seized two kilograms of cocaine from Akins Sr. who was driving a rental vehicle.
In a traffic stop this March, law enforcement seized about $50,600 in drug proceeds from Akens, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Akins Sr. also will be placed on 10 years probation.
Pre-trial motions were filed on Wednesday in the case against Akins Jr., according to court documents.
