WQED holds future jobs expo

WQED will host Future Jobs Expo — Explore Your Future at its Fred Rogers Studio, 4802 Fifth Ave., Oakland.

The event is set for 4-8 p.m. May 15, and is part of its Future Jobs Initiative, a year-long multimedia effort to highlight jobs of the future in demand today and to steer potential employees to those employers who are training and hiring.

The expo is open to anyone from middle school and up who may be contemplating a career, along with college and trade school students and people looking for a career change to jobs of the future.

Highlighted careers will include robotics, engineering, construction, additive manufacturing, energy, health care and social services.

Registration is recommended but not required at FutureJobsRSVP.

Expected are speakers and demonstrations, giveaways and prizes. Attendees can experience virtual reality with an Oculus VR headset.

Speakers are expected from Passavant Memorial Homes Family of Services, Mascaro Construction, Partner4Work, Carlow University’s data analytics program, Future Grind podcast, Nazareth Prep, Community College of Allegheny County, PJ Dick-Trumbull-Lindy Paving and The Society for Protective Coatings.

“WQED’s Future Jobs Expo looks at the changing nature of work in the region and highlights how the workforce can adapt. The jobs in the Pittsburgh region will be different in the future, and this Expo will include companies looking to hire as well as resources to prepare for these jobs,” says Sharon Steele, WQED director of corporate support.
