A fire broke out at Wilson’s Bar-B-Q in the Mexican War Streets in Pittsburgh’s North Side on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019.

Two firefighters were injured and a dog was rescued Tuesday evening in a fire at a North Side barbecue restaurant.

Allegheny County dispatchers said calls for the blaze at Wilson’s Bar-B-Q in Pittsburgh’s Mexican War Streets came in shortly before 5:45 p.m.

Flames were seen coming from the building at 700 N. Taylor Ave. and smoke filled the street.

Pittsburgh Public Safety spokesman Chris Togneri said a firefighter sustained burns to his hand and another firefighter was injured battling the blaze. A firefighter ran back into the building to save a dog.

Authorities believe the fire started in the kitchen. It was contained and a wall was knocked down in the process.

Wilson’s was founded nearly 60 years ago by George Wilson. Following his death in 2018, his son, George Wilson Jr., has operated the popular barbecue spot.
