TRYP Hotel in Lawrenceville has dining options: Brick Shop and Over Eden

Brandon Blumenfeld is working double-time at TRYP Hotel in Lawrenceville.

The chef helms the kitchen at the hotel’s two restaurants: Over Eden — a rooftop spot that opened in June — and Brick Shop, a more formal eatery on the ground floor that debuted its dinner menu Tuesday.

Located in the former Washington Education Center, a 150-year-old trade school building on 40th Street, both spots offer unique dining experiences.

Brick Shop derives its name from its location: the former school’s brick shop. There’s a java joint within, Coffee at Brick, open from early morning until 1 p.m. The dining room serves breakfast every day, while dinner service is Tuesday through Saturday.

The seasonal menu features Eastern European eats with a focus on the Caucasus region. Fresh a la carte pastries provided by Mediterra Bakehouse and Confections by Casey Renee are on hand daily.

Breakfast highlights include Khachapuri, a house-baked bread boat filled with farmers cheese, cultured butter, and poached egg on top (best when mixed and dipped!) and the Cinnamon Babka French Toast with maple caramel, peanuts, and whipped cream. Customers also can order more familiar staples such as two eggs any style with bacon, kielbasa, fried potatoes and choice of toast. Breakfast hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30 to 10 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 to 11 a.m.

The new dinner options include scratch-made snacks, appetizers, seasonal veggies, sides and entrees.

Haluski lovers will love Blumenfeld’s take — a mix of lamb, cabbage, sour cream, sumac, scallions and black pepper. Another carb-loaded favorite is the Pelmeni Dumplings with mushroom, leek, adjika, sour cream poppyseed and dill.

Brick Shop’s counterpart, Over Eden, specializes in shareable plates, cocktails and breathtaking views of Lawrenceville and downtown Pittsburgh.

Perched high above Eden Way, the hotel’s cross-street, the space is a one-of-a-kind gathering place, especially on clear, warm days.

Patrons can dig into pitas and dips, including hummus, beet baba and labneh (butternut, honey, chili oil, rosemary and pistachio).Platters featuring pastrami short ribs, whole crispy fish or a mixed grill served with basmati rice and condiments are suitable for two or three people.

Bartenders serve up wine by the glass, draft and canned beer and cocktails like the Crimson Tide with white rum, Luxardo maraschino, ginger, agave, lime juice and a spritz of rose water. Groups can also order pitchers of seasonal Rum Punch and Sangria.

Over Eden is open Monday - Wednesday 5 to 11 p.m., Thursday - Friday 5 p.m. to midnight, Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight and Sunday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
