A portion of Thompson Run Road in Ross that had closed has reopened a week early.
The section was between Radcliff Drive and Evergreen Road.
Allegheny County Public Works officials said a $60,000 replacement project done by Pugliano Construction of Plum finished earlier than expected.
The project included replacing a damaged portion of stone abutment on a Thompson Run bridge with reinforced concrete and creating a way to divert the stream.
The southbound lane of that section of road was closed June 7 when a consultant discovered part of the bridge’s abutment had washed away during spring storms. It made the lane of the bridge potentially structurally deficient.
Traffic from both directions at first was diverted to a single lane of alternating traffic. It then was closed to southbound traffic July 9 to create a work zone for the emergency repairs.
Authorities said people ignored the closure and continued to use the open northbound lane, so both lanes were closed Monday, July 15 to allow the work to be completed Thursday.
