Strip District shooting suspect arrested; Pittsburgh police file additional charges

A man wanted in an Aug. 1 shooting in Pittsburgh’s Strip District is in the Allegheny County Jail charged with additional gun and drug-related violations.

Authorities apprehended Treysaun Lockett-Tillman, 21, on Friday after U.S. marshals spotted him walking into a home on Joslyn Drive in Penn Hills.

He was placed in the jail after being denied bail at a Saturday morning arraignment. He faces an Oct. 31 preliminary hearing.

Lockett-Tillman is charged with attempted homicide, robbery of a vehicle, aggravated and simple assault and reckless endangerment related to the shooting.

Police allege he shot a man multiple times, critically injuring him, on a sidewalk across Penn Avenue from the Savoy Restaurant. The man told police he’d attempted to intervene in an argument between Lockett-Tillman and a woman, according to a criminal complaint.

Lockett-Tillman then allegedly got into a nearby car, threatened the three occupants and pointed a gun at the driver’s head. The people got out of the car, and Lockett-Tillman drove off when the driver threw him the keys, the complaint states.

After Lockett-Tillman surrendered at the front door of the Penn Hills home, investigators searched the house and recovered a bundle of suspected heroin, a marijuana grinder, a digital scale and three stolen firearms, one of which had been thrown from a bedroom window, according to court documents.

Police said Lockett-Tillman isn’t allowed to possess a gun because of convictions on charges of possessing a gun while a minor, carrying a gun without a license and escape, dating from 2014 to 2017.

Police said Lockett-Tillman told them during a later interview that “he knew he had a warrant, however he was not ready to go to jail.”

Lockett-Tillman also is charged with riot, simple assault and disorderly conduct stemming from an April 12 fight between rival McKeesport gangs at the Monroeville Mall that led to shots being fired at the Macy’s Backstage store. No one was injured in that shooting, but mall patrons were sent scrambling for safety.

Police on Saturday filed additional charges of: unlawful possession of firearms; receiving stolen property; tampering with evidence, for allegedly throwing the gun from the window; and possession of heroin, a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
