A Shaler man has pleaded guilty to raping a 5-year-old boy he was babysitting.
Dylan McKinney, 27, will spend between seven and 14 years in jail followed by 10 years supervised probation on the rape charge in exchange for the dismissal of some of the related criminal counts he faced, according to court records.
Once McKinney is released, he will have to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life.
In addition to rape, McKinney also pleaded guilty to a count of corruption of minors, which carries a sentence of one to two years in prison and five years’ probation.
Ross Township police arrested McKinney in May 2018 and charged him with the rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault of a person under 13 and corruption of minors.
He has been in the Allegheny County Jail since his arrest.
Investigators say the family of the victim hired McKinney through an online babysitting service to care for the 5-year-old and his 3-year-old sibling while they were living in Hampton.
The family continued to use McKinney after they moved to Ross Township, according to records.
The victim told investigators that the assaults occurred before and after the family moved and that he was supposed to keep the assaults secret, according to the criminal complaint filed in support of the charges.
Police say McKinney made a deal with the child: He’d sexually assault the boy, then they’d play video games, according to the complaint.
“I didn’t want to tell anybody, but I wanted to tell mommy because this … is so bad,” the boy allegedly told police. “If I told, my friend Dylan would be fired.”
