A 24-year-old Scott man who is accused of hurting three Pittsburgh police officers during the May 30 protests Downtown has schizophrenia and is in jail after an unrelated June 10 incident at his grandparents’ home, according to criminal complaints.

Authorities used surveillance camera footage to identify Andrew Augustyniak-Duncan as the person who hurt three Pittsburgh officers during unrest at Downtown protests on May 30.

Augustyniak-Duncan is accused of throwing pieces of a concrete planter, rocks and other debris at three police officers at various locations Downtown, according to the complaint.

The charges were filed Monday by the Damage Assessment and Accountability Taskforce, a group of local, state and federal officers who have been investigating unrest after daily protests that started May 30 sometimes devolved into violence.

Augustyniak-Duncan is facing three counts each of aggravated assault and reckless endangering and one count of riot, according to the complaint.

He already is being held in Allegheny County Jail on $200,000 bail for a June 10 incident at his grandparents’ home in Scott.

In that case, police were called to the home after Augustyniak-Duncan’s grandmother called his probation officer because he was threatening to harm her and harm himself with a gun, according to a criminal complaint.

Police found Augustyniak-Duncan unarmed, but shirtless, pacing and agitated on the property, according to the complaint.

He fought with several officers, who ultimately used a Taser and “multiple closed fist strikes” to subdue him after he bit one of the officers, according to the complaint. He was taken into custody on a medical board after police shackled his legs. Police found a 9mm Ruger handgun under a bucket in a shed, according to the complaint.

In that case, Augustyniak-Duncan is charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and making terroristic threats, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and a firearms violation.

Augustyniak-Duncan’s grandmother told authorities her grandson has schizophrenia and refuses to take his medicine. Before she called the probation officer, he was waving the gun and told her, “Lady, I’m going to kill you today,” according to the complaint.
