Before Gov. Tom Wolf even made the official announcement about Allegheny County “going green” during the coronavirus pandemic, officials at Rosedale Tech in Kennedy Township were working to ensure they’d be ready to open the doors and resume on-campus classes.

The first day back in class for Rosedale students was June 9.

“The safety of our students, staff and faculty is our top priority,” said Rosedale President Dennis Wilke. “So, with this in mind, the four-phased ‘Safe Open Plan’ was put in place outlining several new procedures.”

Among them:

• Hand sanitizer dispenser at all entrances and exit doors.

• Face coverings must be worn throughout the campus. Both disposable and Rosedale-branded face coverings are available for students.

• Anyone who is symptomatic may not come to the campus.

• Anyone recently in contact with a covid-19 patient is urged to self-quarantine.

• Safe distancing in shops and lab areas will be implemented.

The college also supports work-from-home activities as much as possible, according to the plan.

Wilke said school officials will also continue offering online classes for some of its core subjects, and will postpone, modify or cancel large student events.

“We’ll assess the situation and take guidance from our local, state and federal government, as well as the CDC and other resources, to determine when conditions are appropriate for large gatherings,” said Rosedale Marketing Manager Angela Stansfield.
