Pittsburgh water authority issues 'flush and boil' advisory for 3 neighborhoods
About 2,000 households in portions of Hazelwood, Swisshelm Park and Greenfield are under a flush and boil water advisory from Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority following a water main break Friday night.
The precautionary advisory, which was posted to the PWSA website and social media late Saturday morning, was issued out of “an abundance of caution,” according to a statement from PWSA.
A searchable map of the impacted area is available at the PWSA website, www.pgh2o.com/boilwater.
“Any customer who experienced no water service or low pressure in this area today is also encouraged to follow these precautionary measures until further notice,” the statement said.
The water authority is conducting testing to confirm adequate disinfectant levels and to verify that water is safe to consume.
Water buffaloes are available at Pittsburgh Fire Bureau Station No. 19, at Homestead Street and Commercial Street in Swisshelm Park, and at Pittsburgh Fire Bureau Station No. 13, at Flowers Avenue and Gertrude Street in Hazelwood.
The break that disrupted water pressure in these areas occurred on a section of a 16-inch water main on the Duck Hollow Trail in Hazelwood around 9:30 p.m. Friday.
The break was isolated and pressure was restored around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
