A Verona police officer was arrested Wednesday on charges that he shared nude photos with and performed a sex act on a 16-year-old boy, according to Allegheny County police.
The boy told police he met Anthony David Ogline, 34, of Verona, through the online dating app Grindr about three months ago, according to a criminal complaint filed in the case.
The boy told Ogline he was 17, according to the criminal complaint filed against Ogline.
Ogline is accused of sending sexually explicit messages to the boy and asked him to send nude photos, according to the complaint. Ogline is also accused of getting the boy drunk and high and performing a sex act on him as he was passing out, police wrote in the complaint.
Ogline was a part-time officer in Verona, but was not on duty when the incident is alleged to have happened, according to county police.
Verona Police Chief Ron McLemore didn’t immediately return requests for comment.
Borough Manager Jerry Kenna said Ogline had been suspended without pay and could be fired by the end of the month.
Kenna said Ogline’s current stint with the police department began in January 2015. He also worked for the borough a few years before that. His current pay is $16 per hour.
“Verona borough police and officials were informed of an investigation (involving Ogline) Friday afternoon,” Kenna said. “We’ve cooperated since the onset with Allegheny County Police. He was suspended once we knew of the potential charges and investigation.”
On Jan. 16, the boy asked Ogline to pick him up from school, according to the complaint. Ogline allegedly told the boy he could stay at Ogline’s house in Verona for a few days, police said.
While at Ogline’s house, the boy told police they watched movies, sat in front of a fireplace, drank liquor and smoked marijuana, according to the complaint. He said he later awakened wearing only underwear.
Police in another town initially investigated on Jan. 16 after the high school there reported the boy leaving the school with a man driving a black Chrysler.
Police pinged the boy’s phone to track him to Ogline’s house on Railroad Street in Verona, according to the complaint. Ogline’s car matches the description of the car the boy got into at the school, according to the complaint.
Police couldn’t get an answer at Ogline’s address, so they requested Allegheny County Police to assist. Shortly thereafter, Ogline arrived at the Verona police station with the boy, according to county police.
Both Ogline and the boy consented to a search of their cellphones, and police reviewed nude photos of the boy on Snapchat, according to the complaint
Ogline was arrested Wednesday and awaiting arraignment in Allegheny County Jail in Pittsburgh on charges of felony sexual abuse of children, unlawful contact with a minor and criminal use of a phone. He also faces misdemeanor charges of corruption of minors, tampering with evidence and furnishing alcohol to minors, according to county police.
Ogline’s attorney wasn’t listed in court records.
