Pittsburgh police have issued an arrest warrant for a Rankin man in connection with a burglary and sexual assault in Oakland on July 5.
Deputies with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office took Robert Mitchell, 30, into custody last month on unrelated charges.
The victim told police that a man she didn’t know entered her residence in the 200 block of Oakland Avenue through a back door while she was sleeping and attempted to sexually assault her, University of Pittsburgh police said in a statement.
Police on July 8 released surveillance footage of the suspect they were looking for.
Mitchell is charged with multiple crimes including burglary, criminal attempted rape and sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault.
Mitchell was being held in the Allegheny County Jail awaiting arraignment on those charges, police said.
