A homeowner shot and killed an intruder Sunday while his fiance and 10-month-old child were inside the Baldwin Borough apartment, according to police.

Joshua Brandon Long, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene after he allegedly tried to rob the apartment using a handgun shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday evening.

Police determined the 25-year-old homeowner use his own handgun to shoot and kill Long.

Long, of West Mifflin, was pronounced dead shortly before 7:30 p.m.

According to police, a second person, a 19-year-old man, was stopped near the apartment complex shortly after the shooting and was arrested on drug charges. It was not immediately clear if this person was related to the shooting.

Allegheny County detectives are investigating the shooting. Once a determination is made, officials will consult with the district attorney, who will decide if charges will be filed.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident can call the Allegheny County police tip line at 1-833-255-8477.
