Pittsburgh man tweets at DiGiorno, gets free pizza as part of promotion
This was an interesting pizza delivery.
Lou Corsaro saw a Twitter post on Thursday to tweet DiGiorno Pizza to receive a free pie.
“So, I was curious and thought I’d give it a shot,” said Corsaro, of Brighton Heights, on Friday. “I tweeted at them and almost immediately I received a tweet back with a link to fill in some information.”
All they needed was a name, phone number, address and style of pizza he wanted. Then he received a text his pizza would arrive in two hours.
It took a little longer than that so he and his wife, Jess Smith, made dinner for themselves and their daughter, Ava.
As soon as they finished, the doorbell rang.
“And there he was, holding the pizza I ordered — the crispy pan pizza,” said Corsaro, who is managing director, university marketing and public relations for Point Park University in Pittsburgh.
The deliveryman said he had to take a photo of each house address for DiGiorno to confirm it was delivered.
There were 136 pizzas delivered, according to a DiGiorno spokeswoman. The pizza business used a platform called Fooji to execute the pizza drops. Fooji is an experimental marketing platform that brings together social and chat networks with on demand delivery services that allow big brands to start a fan interaction online.
“We love DiGiorno pizza,” Corsaro said. “So this was great. Now, we have dinner.”
The pizza delivery promotion is part of a company promotion. DiGiorno has set up on the South Side inside the J. Verno Studios and will be hosting divisional playoff watch parties from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
“DiGiorno knows Pittsburgh has a love for football and pizza, ” the spokeswoman said. “We would have loved it if the Steelers were in the playoffs, but either way we wanted to reward the fanatic football fans with free pizza. We wanted them to skip the delivery pizza process because the pizza might be cold. But with DiGiorno, you can eat it fresh from the oven at the temperature you want it to be.”
The parties offer free pizza, tastings, interactive experiences and games.
