A North Side man already in jail has been charged with killing a man more than four years ago.

Pittsburgh police issued an arrest warrant Tuesday for Randy Johnson, 25, on charges of criminal homicide, robbery and criminal conspiracy. Johnson was already at the Allegheny County Jail on unrelated charges, police said.

Authorities believe Johnson killed Deron McCray, 23, on Nov. 16, 2015, along the 1400 block of Chicago Street in Pittsburgh’s Northview Heights neighborhood.

Another man charged in connection with the incident pleaded guilty to third-degree homicide, robbery and conspiracy in 2016. Joshua Johnson, 24, admitted to the crime in exchange for a sentence of 12 1/2 to 30 years in prison. It is unknown if Joshua Johnson is related to Randy Johnson.

In 2016 when Joshua Johnson pleaded guilty, he told the judge he thought he would be robbing McCray when he and two others knocked on the door of Northview Heights home. After the trio knocked, they heard McCray load a gun, according to the complaint filed against Joshua Johnson. He told police McCray opened the door with a gun in his waistband, and one of the suspects fired a rifle at McCray, striking him once.

McCray was pronounced dead at the scene. Police identified Joshua Johnson using surveillance footage from the scene.
