Pittsburgh gang member sentenced for owning gun used in murder
A Pittsburgh gang member received a two-year prison sentence for illegally owning a gun that was used in a 2017 murder, according to the office of United States Attorney Scott W. Brady.
Tre Goins, 24, did not commit the murder, but did provide the gun, according to Brady’s office.
Goins was a member of the “Trapple Street” gang in the East End.
A 17-year-old boy was shot to death near the gang’s headquarters on Apple Avenue on June 23, 2017, Brady’s office said.
Police saw Goins leaving the alley behind the headquarters with a gun tucked into his waist.
He was prohibited from owning firearms because of two gun-related prior convictions.
Federal district court judge Cathy M. Bissoon sentenced Goins Thursday.
In addition to two years in federal prison Goins’ sentence included a $10,000 fine, up to three years of probation after his release.
