Pitt students begin moving in

Students started moving in Monday for the fall semester at the University of Pittsburgh.

Pitt spokesman Kevin Zwick said 7,800 students, including 3,800 “first-years,” will be moving into on-campus housing this week. The first day of classes is Aug. 26.

The university received 32,000 freshman applications and offered admission to 18,000. Of those, 4,150 accepted, Zwick said.

The following roads will be closed while students are moving in:

• Bigelow Boulevard from Forbes to Fifth — Closed Monday to Thursday.

• University Place from Fifth to O’Hara — Closed Monday to Friday.

• Lothrop Street from Fifth to Victoria — Closed Monday to Saturday.

• North Bouquet Street from 5th to O’Hara — Closed Monday to Wednesday.

• Thackeray Street from 5th to O’Hara — Closed Monday to Wednesday.

• University Drive from Allequippa to Drive C — Closed Monday to Wednesday.

Those driving throughout Oakland are advised to plan accordingly and allow for extra travel time.
