A 60-year-old Denny’s employee died Tuesday after he was hit by a car in North Versailles, according to Allegheny County Police.
Kevin Kolesar, of North Versailles, was hit at the corner of Aldi Drive and Mosside Boulevard shortly after 6 a.m. while walking to work.
He was taken to Forbes Hospital but did not survive, police said.
Coworkers at the Denny’s on Lincoln Highway in North Versailles said Kolesar worked there as a dishwasher since March.
Manager Denise Liscio described him as “a model employee.”
“He was a hard-working, wonderful man, and my entire staff loved him,” she said.
Kolesar walked the same route to work from his home at the nearby Point Pleasant retirement community every day. He arrived an hour early to clock in promptly at the start of his shift, Liscio said. He was always willing to stay late to help out until the next shift arrived.
The mood at Denny’s was quiet and somber as mourning staff members just tried to get through the day, Liscio said.
“All I can say is he was a wonderful man, we loved him and we will definitely miss him,” Liscio said. “His family is in our hearts and prayers.”
Kolesar was a seven-year resident of Point Pleasant and was very involved in the community, Executive Director Heather Diaz Granados said.
“Deeply loved, many friends here,” Diaz Granados said. “And we are deeply saddened about the loss of Mr. Kolesar today.”
The 57-year-old driver remained at the scene. Police are investigating.
