General Edward Braddock may have failed at capturing the French Fort Duquesne during the French and Indian War, but his namesake beer once again proved to be a winner, according to Paste Magazine.

General Braddock’s IPA, the flagship American IPA from the Braddock-based Brew Gentlemen, was named one of the 25 best beers of the decade nationwide by the arts and culture magazine Paste.

Paste editors wrote the beer is near perfect.

“And it’s time for the world to know it,” Paste editors wrote of the “creamy, juicy and vibrant” beer that offers notes of orange and grapefruit zest without being too sweet.

It was also praised for a “ridiculously soft and supple” mouthfeel and a pleasantly hoppy taste.

“General Braddock’s is the beer we want to share with the world,” Brew Gentleman CEO Matt Katase said. “As we look back at the last decade, we’re proud of our flagship and we’re glad that others see it too. In the next decade, we can’t wait to share it with many more people in Pittsburgh and beyond.”

General Braddock’s was ranked No. 25 among the best IPAs nationwide in 2017 by Draft Magazine.

Brew Gentlemen is wrapping up its 2019 expansion with the renovation of a warehouse adjacent to the facility on Braddock Avenue. A full-scale brew house to accommodate increased production and canning will launch in 2020.
