A Stowe Township police officer fired his gun at a man who had been driving a car that may have been involved in a shooting near Sto-Rox High School Monday afternoon, Allegheny County Police said.

Police said the man was grazed by the bullet and taken into custody. After being treated at a hospital, he was taken to the Allegheny County Jail, where he was being held on outstanding warrants.

County Police said the shooting happened around 2 p.m. in the 1100 block of Dohrman Street, about two blocks from the high school. Stowe and McKees Rocks officers were it the area and heard the shots.

Officers learned a black vehicle fleeing the area may have been involved in the shooting. Stowe officers stopped a black car in Ann Alley about three blocks from the scene.

Police said the driver would not comply with officer’s requests and fled on foot. Police said he ran through yards and was jumping fences before running at the officer, prompting that officer to fire his handgun.

A vehicle determined to have been involved is a black Chevrolet Spark with Missouri plate VD9L6S. Police said it will have multiple bullet holes to its windshield and may be missing a driver side window. Anyone seeing the car should call 911 immediately, police said.

County Police said they have no reports of anyone being shot in the initial shooting, the motive for which was not clear. Police were continuing to investigate.

Anyone with information is asked to call the county police tip line at 833-255-8477.

County police said a shooting victim being taken to the hospital in a private car pulled over by Pittsburgh police Monday afternoon was not connected to the Stowe shooting.

In that case, Pittsburgh police stopped a car along Brighton Road just after 3:30 p.m. and discovered a woman who was driving a male passenger with a gunshot wound to the hospital.

City EMS transported the man, in critical condition, to the hospital. City police are investigating and they haven’t determined where the shooting happened.
