Allegheny County Jail inmates will be without hot water until Wednesday while repairs are being made to the steam system, according to county spokeswoman Amie Downs.

The system was shut down around 7 p.m. Sunday. Downs said officials have installed a 40-gallon hot water tank in their medical holding unit for emergency situations.

This isn’t the first time inmates have been without hot water.

An issue with the jail’s water tower led to a modified lockdown in March. Hot water was not available from the ground floor up to level five of the Second Avenue facility, officials said at the time.

The lockdown meant no programming in the re-entry centers, no educational services on level one and no visitation.
