Police investigate exchange of gunfire in Chalfant
Allegheny County Police are investigating after gunfire was exchanged in Chalfant Wednesday night.
According to county police, officers from neighboring Forest Hills and Wilkins Township responded to a call of shots fired in the 700 block of Greensburg Pike around 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Officers found damage to the front of a residence and a parked, unoccupied vehicle. No one was hit by gunfire.
County police said they learned from witnesses and evidence that two people had been standing on a porch in the 700 block of Greensburg Pike when a dark colored SUV drove past, turned around and parked at the curb. An unidentified heavy-set black man got out of the vehicle, shouted something at the house and started shooting.
A person on the porch with access to a firearm returned fire and fled into the house. Another adult and three small children were also in the house, police said.
A motive for the shooting was not clear, police said.
Chalfant is located in the eastern suburbs of Allegheny County.
