A crash involving several vehicles near the former site of St. Nicholas Church was backing up traffic on inbound Route 28 on Monday, Feb. 24, 2020.

A crash with multiple vehicles snarled traffic on inbound Route 28 on Monday morning, backing up traffic considerably just before the heart of rush hour.

Several vehicles were involved in the crash near the former site of St. Nicholas Church between the 31st Street Bridge and East Ohio Street.

The right lane had been blocked by the vehicles and emergency responders. The crash was cleared around 7 a.m.

Tribune-Review news partner WPXI said it was taking over an hour to get from the Pennsylvania Turnpike interchange to the Veterans Bridge at about 7 a.m., the height of the backup.

Around 7:30 a.m., traffic was back to near normal.
