A man convicted of sexually assaulting a woman sleeping on a Greyhound bus in August was arrested Thursday night after leaving a halfway house nearly a week ago, according to the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.

Justin Dahlheimer, 23, of Sioux City, Iowa, was convicted on Dec. 20 of indecent assault and disorderly conduct. He had been arrested Aug. 6 at the Greyhound bus station in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Dahlheimer and the woman were passengers on the bus. The woman reported she woke up to find him touching her breasts and legs. Authorities were notified and Dahlheimer was arrested at the bus station.

Dahlheimer was sentenced to two years of probation and alternative housing. On Jan. 5, he left the Remnant House in Munhall, the sheriff’s office said. A criminal bench warrant was issued for him Tuesday.

He has no known ties to Pittsburgh.

“It was apparent to Remnant House staff that Dahlheimer was attempting to return to Iowa,” the sheriff’s office said.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday, off-duty sheriff’s Lt. Jack Kearney saw Dahlheimer running on Smithfield Street near the Boulevard of the Allies. He notified other detectives, who responded and helped in apprehending Dahlheimer, who was arrested without incident.

Dahlheimer was being held in Allegheny County Jail. The sheriff’s office said Dahlheimer will also be charged with failing to register as a sex offender.
