A man was charged with strangulation and assault following a more than one-hour standoff Sunday night at a Lawrenceville home, according to authorities.

Pittsburgh police responded to a report of domestic violence inside a home in the 100 block of 41st Street around 9 p.m., according to public safety.

Officers responding from the Zone 2 station in the North Side found a woman who escaped from the home safely when they arrived.

But a SWAT team was called in after the man inside the house refused orders to come out of the house, police said.

The man surrendered without incident at about 10:15 p.m., police said.

Investigators have not released the man’s name or identified the woman.
