Ohio boy to be charged with threatening Keystone Oaks School District

An Ohio boy has admitted to posting online threats that prompted the closure of Keystone Oaks School District, according to the Mt. Lebanon Police Department.

Three threats were posted to the district’s Instagram account Wednesday, police said.

Investigators from Mt. Lebanon Police Department with assistance from FBI’s Cleveland field office determined all three posts came from the same computer, which was tracked to a home in Brooklyn, Ohio.

Police questioned a boy living at the address who admitted to posting the threat, police said. Charges are pending by the Brooklyn Police Department.

The district closed Thursday as police investigated the validity of the threats, according to a announcement posted to the district’s website.

“The safety of our students and staff is the district’s number one priority and we do not take these situations lightly,” the district wrote.

Mt. Lebanon Police continue to investigate the posts to see if anyone else was involved, but there are “currently no known threats to the Keystone Oaks School District or the community,” according to the department.

This is Keystone Oaks’ second threat-related closure this year. In February police charged an unidentified juvenile for making terrorist threats online that prompted the district to close.

Police said they do not believe this week’s threats are related to the February incident.
