A 1-year-old boy riding in a car was injured by flying glass Friday afternoon when another car fired at the one the baby was riding in.

Allegheny County Police Inspector Andrew Schurman said the incident happened around 4:15 p.m. in Braddock Hills near the intersection of Yost Boulevard and Brinton Road.

The child was taken to a local hospital with superficial wounds. No other injuries were reported.

Police said the boy was in car driven by his mother, with his 27-year-old father in the front passenger seat and their two other sons, ages 5 and 6, in the back seat.

Shots were fired from another vehicle at the car as it traveled along Brinton Road, police said.

Police believe the man was targeted by the gunman.

First responders first believed that the baby had been grazed by a bullet. It was later determined that it had been hit by broken glass.

The car was cordoned off with police tape in the parking lot of an auto parts store in the Forest Hills Plaza.

Information about possible suspects was not released.

Anyone with information on incident is asked to call the County Police Tip Line 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
