A man who refused orders to come out of his house Tuesday morning after Ross police smelled a strong odor of natural gas when they came to check on him has surrendered to authorities.
Family members of the man asked police to conduct a welfare check after he was involved in a domestic dispute last night, said Ross police Detective Brian Kohlhepp.
But when officers went to the home along Jacks Run Road shortly after 8 a.m. they smelled the gas and called in a SWAT team and fire and EMS crews.
Autorities closed off Jacks Run near the intersection of Connie Drive and spent several hours trying to make contact with the man, whose name was not released.
Adjacent homes also were evacuated as a precaution and the utility company was called to the scene to shut off the gas, Kohlhepp said.
He finally surrendered shortly after noon.
The road has been reopened and residents were allowed to return to their homes, according to police.
