A student from the Yeshiva Schools of Pittsburgh Girls School cries as she and others pray and sing outside of the Tree of Life synagogue on Monday, Oct. 29, 2018.

A free concert to show support of and solidarity with Pittsburgh’s Jewish community in the wake of the Tree of Life shooting will take place Sunday at Temple Sinai in Squirrel Hill.

The event is being organized by HaZamir: The International Jewish Teen Choir.

Molly May, director of the Pittsburgh chapter of HaZamir, said the national office of the choir asked to hold a concert in Pittsburgh in response to the tragedy.

“When the shooting at Tree of Life happened, my teen singers and I received messages from all over, offering love and prayers and confirming that we were okay,” she said.

The 3 p.m. concert is open to the public. May said teens, parents and conductors from HaZamir chapters in Boston, Miami, New York, Cleveland, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Columbus and other cities are expected to attend.

“We also have teens and adults who will be coming for the weekend to spend Shabbat in Pittsburgh, and we look forward to hosting them in Squirrel Hill,” she said.

HaZamir has 38 choral chapters in the U.S. and Israel.
