4th person dies of covid-19 in Allegheny County as total cases climb to 605

Allegheny County Health department officials reported Sunday a fourth person, in his 80s, has died of covid-19.

The county also reported that the number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Allegheny County went up by just under 10% between Saturday and Sunday as the countywide total climbed to 605.

County officials reported 53 new cases Sunday, compared to 76 new cases Saturday.

About 500 people have been tested per day during the past week, a significant increase over the 1,616 tests reported to have been performed on Allegheny County residents since last Thursday.

County officials are releasing some demographic information, including a general age breakdown of cases and where people with confirmed cases of covid-19 live.

More demographic information is expected to be released within the next week.

Of the county’s 552 total cases, the City of Pittsburgh continues to report the most cases, with 192, according to a heat map showing cases throughout the county The number of city cases increased by 17 between Saturday and Sunday.

That map does not include a breakdown of cases by city neighborhood or ZIP code.

Among other municipalities, the map showed McCandless had at least 19 cases, Mt. Lebanon had 13 cases, and Baldwin, Richland and Shaler each reported 12.
