Penn Hills is one of Pennsylvania’s best places to live retired, according to GOBankingRates.com.

The website is designed to be a personal finance resource to share articles and advice on managing money.

They made their retirement determination based on median home list price, annual mortgage total and annual cost of living expenses.

The site says Penn Hills has the fourth-largest population in the state of people ages 65 and older.

The city also has the seventh-lowest median list price for a home at $90,000 and the seventh-lowest mortgage at just over $4,000. In addition, Penn Hills has the ninth-lowest annual cost of living, plus has annual mortgage payment of about $22,500 a year.

Resident Linda Boutillette seems to agree with the site’s assessment, and wants people to look beyond the numbers.

“Penn Hills has its problems like every other community, but overall it is a great place to live,” she said. “Some of the things I enjoy about living here are a variety of stores to shop at within a short drive, many churches of different denominations, a variety of after school activities for children, close proximity to downtown, Monroeville (and) Boyce Park.

“We have several beautiful playgrounds for the children, and for the most part the people are proud of their community.

“On the downside, of course, is the problem with the enormous debt from the school district, taxes, and the high sewage and water bills. I do believe that just like anything else in life, you get back what you put into it.”
