Cleveland man suspected in laptop thefts in Findlay, Pittsburgh burglaries

A Cleveland man charged in connection with the thefts of laptop computers from multiple businesses in Findlay is also believed to be one of two suspects in similar incidents in Pittsburgh, police said Friday.

Findlay police said they identified Leroy Lummie Glass Jr., 62, from a thumbprint on a piece of paper left behind at one of the burglarized businesses in Park West on Cliff Mine Road. They said they also traced his cell phone location to that area on the dates the burglaries happened in August and September of 2018.

State police placed Glass in the Pittsburgh area at the same time through the use of his players card at Rivers Casino, according to court documents.

Youngstown police interviewed Glass about an office burglary in January. During that interview, Glass admitted that he had been on his way to Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh when he burglarized an office there, according to court documents.

Police say Glass has been identified in surveillance images from Pittsburgh police in relation to their investigations of several office burglaries where multiple computers were taken around the same time as the incidents in Findlay.

A Pittsburgh police spokeswoman could not immediately comment on their case.

Break-ins and thefts of laptop computers were reported in August 2018 at Stella-Jones Corp. in Park West Building 1 and Future Technology Staffing in Park West Building 2.

The paper that allegedly contained Glass’ thumbprint was found in a desk drawer at Stella-Jones. Police said it was a printed email that had been removed from a stolen laptop bag.

In early October 2018, a break-in was reported at Old Republic Surety and a vacant business, QPS Engineering, both in Park West Building 2, but nothing was taken.

A laptop was reported taken from Walsh Granite in Park West Building 2 when its offices were forcibly entered in late September 2018, according to police.

Two older men were captured on surveillance footage at Park West Building 2. A Findlay officer recognized both as the same suspects that a Pittsburgh police detective was trying to identify in relation to a series of office burglaries in Pittsburgh were numerous laptops had been stolen.

Glass matched one of the two suspects in the footage from Findlay, police said. He was also identified in various surveillance images kept by Pittsburgh police.

Findlay police have charged Glass with several counts of burglary, theft and criminal mischief for the incidents in their township in August and September 2018.

Findlay police said Glass declined to speak with them when they tried to interview him at the Mahoning County Jail in Ohio in June.

District Judge Anthony Saveikas issued an arrest warrant for Glass. Glass is currently incarcerated in the Lorain Correctional Institute in Grafton, Ohio, near Cleveland, where he is serving 4½ years on similar burglary and theft charges. He was awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania.
