Dr. David Parda, left, was named president of Allegheny General Hospital on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019. He will succeed Dr. Jeffery Cohen, right, who is assuming the new position of chief physician executive for community health and innovation. Both appointments are effective Jan. 1, 2020.

Allegheny Health Network named Dr. David Parda president of Allegheny General Hospital on Pittsburgh’s North Side, the network announced in a statement Wednesday.

Parda will succeed Dr. Jeffrey Cohen, who will move to a new role as chief physician executive for Community Health and Innovation, the statement said. That position will serve as a liaison between Allegheny Health Network and Highmark Health, as well as the communities the network serves.

Cohen has been president of Allegheny General Hospital since 2016. He oversaw the beginning of construction of an $80 million Academic Cancer Center and the openings of a critical decision unit and a facility for treating gastrointestinal disorders.

Parda has worked to cultivate oncology programs since he joined Allegheny General Hospital in 1998. He serves as chair of the network’s Cancer Institute, where he oversees more than 200 physicians and 500 oncology professionals across 24 affiliated clinical sites in Western Pennsylvania.

Both appointments are effective Jan. 1, 2020.
