Allegheny County on Sunday reported three more deaths from the coronavirus, bringing the countywide total to 50.

The 50 people who have died range in age from 56 to 103 years old, with the most deaths occurring in people over 70, county data show.

The county also reported 26 new cases Sunday, bringing the total to 1,035 since March 14, when the first case was reported.

That number is down from a day earlier when county officials reported 62 new cases. That compares 22 cases on Friday, 21 new cases Thursday, 11 on Wednesday, 17 new cases on Tuesday and 19 on Monday.

Allegheny County Health Department Director Dr. Debra Bogen called the week’s numbers “incredibly encouraging,” but said during a press briefing Wednesday that more testing is needed to know whether the virus is subsiding.

More than 10,000 people have been tested for the coronavirus in Allegheny County, but that amounts to less than 1 percent of residents, Bogen said.

County officials said Sunday that 180 people diagnosed with covid-19 have been hospitalized, an increase of just two from Saturday.

The county does not provide data on how many people have recovered or been discharged.
