Allegheny County coronavirus cases rise by 20; 1 new death reported
There was one new death in Allegheny County from the coronavirus since Friday, and there were 20 additional cases, the Allegheny County Health Department reported Saturday morning.
The death toll of people who have died from the virus has climbed to 178, the county health department said.
The new count of covid-19 cases brings the total number cases to 2,158 since the county reported its first case March 14. The 20 new cases are in addition to the 16 new cases reported on Friday. About 56% of covid-19 cases occurred in people older than 50, the county said.
There have been 362 hospitalizations in the county since the first case was reported, one more than on Friday.
A case is listed as probable when a person displays symptoms of covid-19 and has had close contact with a confirmed positive case, but has not had a test themselves. The county health department has said it is including those probable cases to assess community spread.
More than 46,000 people have been tested for the coronavirus in Allegheny County.
