A 5-year-old was seriously hurt after being hit by an SUV in East Pittsburgh on Saturday, according to state police.

The incident happened around 5:15 p.m. in the 500 block of Bessemer Avenue, state police said in a release issued Wednesday.

State police said the child ran into the street, and was hit in the center of the road by a Ford Escape driven by a 16-year-old girl. The driver was not identified, and state police did not show any charges being filed against her.

The boy was taken to UPMC Children’s Hospital.

Two passengers in the SUV, a 16-year-old girl and a 25-year-old man, were not hurt.

State police said the crash remained under investigation.
