A Pine-Richland High School senior is this year’s winner of the Congressional Art Competition for the 17th U.S. House District.

Rising senior Ayla Chandola’s winning art is a computer generated mixed media piece titled “Nature’s Power.”

“I look forward to seeing Ayla’s artwork on display in the Capitol,” said U.S. Rep. Connor Lamb, D-Mt. Lebanon, in a news release congratulating this year’s winners.

“I am always impressed by the submissions from our students, it was not easy to select a winner. Special thanks to the teachers and families who encourage kids to continue to explore the arts,” Lamb wrote.

A dozen students from across the Congressional district submitted oil paintings, photographs and drawings for this year’s contest.

A panel of judges, including local artists and educators, selected Chandola’s “Nature’s Power,” which will hang in the U.S. Capitol building along with the winning entries from other congressional districts across the country.

The panel of judges also announced the following runners-up, who will have their art displayed in Lamb’s local congressional offices in Mt. Lebanon, Penn Hills and in Beaver County.

The runners-up are:

• Second Place: Ashley Glabicki, Sewickley Academy, “Say Their Names”

• Third Place: Brian Walsh, Seneca Valley Senior High School, “4 Elements”

• Foutth Place: Logan Fitch, St. Joseph High School, “Chromatic Bloom”

The winning art pieces can be viewed online on Lamb’s webpage.
