A Pine Township man who pleaded guilty last year to having child pornography was arrested by Allegheny County police for allegedly downloading illegal images and video on the day of a scheduled meeting with his parole agent.

Kyle Donnelly, 28, of the 200 block of McKinney Road was charged by Allegheny County police on July 17 with eight counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of criminal use of a communications facility, which are all felonies.

Donnelly was being detained in the Allegheny County Jail in lieu of a cash bond set at 10% of $1,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 23 before District Judge William Wagner.

According to court records, Allegheny County police charged Donnelly with one felony count of possession of child pornography in May 2021.

He pleaded guilty to the charge on March 29, 2022, and was sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to register with the state police Megan’s Law database of convicted sex offenders for 15 years, court records show.

Donnelly also was ordered not to use the internet for a year, court records show.

A detective wrote in a criminal complaint that on June 21, a parole officer went to Donnelly’s house after he failed to show up for a scheduled faced-to-face meeting at a prearranged location in the South Side.

The parole agent called police after finding child pornography in a folder marked “screen shots” on the computer in Donnelly’s bedroom, the complaint said.

Donnelly admitted to police that he had been viewing child pornography online and told them that he was undergoing sex offender counseling and alcohol recovery, the complaint said.

He told the detective that he knew it was wrong to view child pornography and said “I feel like I’m not in control,” the complaint said.

He told investigators that after he could “not stop himself” from viewing child porn after he was again allowed to use the internet, the complaint said.

Donnelly told police that rather than save the child pornography on his computer, he “backed up” the images on a memory card that he would view, the complaint said.

He directed officers to the shed at his home, where they found the memory card inside a container that was placed in a garbage bin, police said.

When a computer forensic specialist reviewed the memory card they found 507 images of child pornography that were downloaded on June 21, the complaint said.

A review of Donnelly’s computer found 10 images of child pornography, police said.
