Pine celebrated the Easter season this year with goodies and furry friends.
Children swarmed the Pine Athletic Complex looking for eggs April 12. The Egg-cellent Egg Hunt was open to those 10 and younger, with time slots allotted for the different age groups.
Supervisors Chairman Ryan Colombo was pleased with the event’s turnout.
“The Easter egg hunt is one of our favorite community traditions, and this year was no exception. Over 500 kids joined us in Pine Community Park for a day full of fun, and we’re so grateful to have the Pine Athletic Complex turf fields, which allowed the event to go on despite the wet weather. We’re also thankful for our partners at Richland Township and the Northern Tier Regional Library — working together made this event extra special for families across the area,” Colombo said.
New this year was Pine’s Paws and Bunnies: A Picture PAWty, which appealed to dog owners in the community. On April 9, residents and their pets were able to get their pictures taken at sunset with the Easter bunny. Photographer Don Orkoskey captured each moment. The event was pushed ahead a week because of inclement weather.
“This was our first year hosting Paws and Bunnies: A Picture PAWty, and we were thrilled to see so many pet owners join us in the park. It was our second pet-focused event this year, and we’re always looking for fun and creative ways to bring the community together,” said Gina Kampi, Pine’s recreation program coordinator. “The turnout was amazing, and I can’t wait for our Dog Days at the splash pad event this September.”
Pine’s next big event for spring will be its Earth Day celebration April 26-27.
The Earth Day celebration will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 26, rain or shine, at the Pine Community Center, 100 Pine Park Drive. In addition to an opportunity to drop off items to recycle, such as scrap metal, assorted e-waste and small appliances, there will be a variety of free workshops, information booths, merchants and food vendors, a recycled art show, yoga class and an amimal meet-and-greet by the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium.
On April 27, Pine is hosting its first Earth Day 5K at 9 a.m. Registration for the 5K is $45 and ends April 26. Proceeds will benefit the Friends of Pine Amphitheater.
